Discussion week 8, #1
From the book I learned about many components that belong in an introduction and conclusion for a speech. The components include, primary effect, attention getter, indicating your purpose and thesis, establishing credibility, and previewing all the main points that a speaker is going to cover. For the conclusion the components are, reviewing your main points, reinforce the purpose, and providing closure to your audience. With both the introduction and conclusion you preview the main points in your speech, I think that is very important because at any point if your spectator loses you, for any reason, the previewing and reviewing the main points is vital for the life of the speech. Along with listing points for a speech, the thesis is very important. It is the heart and soul of your speech, and everything that is asked for question will sprout directing from your thesis. Thesis is the most important, because everything else revolves around supporting your thesis and making sure its credible.

I definitely agree that the thesis is the most important part of a speech (or any document for that matter!). A lot of people think that the attention getter is the most important, because it sets the pace for the speech, will it be funny, shocking, etc., but in reality I find that the entire feel of the speech is set by the thesis! That is why we spend so much time learning how to perfect the thesis!
I agree with you that your thesis is the most important part of your speech because your whole speech is based off of that one idea. It is up to you to develop it and make it stand out to your audience. The other most important thing that you must do in your speech is, like you said, make sure to review all of your main points so you can make it clear your audience what you are getting accross. With out these two things and a good catcher, the speech is lost and extremely boring. You will have no creditability and the audeince will not care to listen.
Hey Jane, I completely agree with you when you talk about the thesis statement. The thesis is the main part of your speech because it tells the audience what you are going to be talking about and how the flow of your speech is going to go. Without an thesis, your speech is going to be very unorganized. It is also important to state your main points in the conclusion because your audience might have stop paying attention for a little bit and you can just remind them. You made some really good points. I agree with everything you said, all of these points are vital to maintaining a good speech.
I thought that this part was helpful too. The introduction and conclusion are very important. If the introduction is not well written or said then the audience will be lost or might not understand what the speech is about, which is the worst case scenario. If the introduction is well written then it starts the speech off on a good note. If it does its job, the audience will want more. All of the parts are necessary for the introduction to be as effective as possible. The conclusion is not as important as the introduction but is still important. If all of the components are used correctly it should allow the audience to feel fulfilled and happy about what they just heard.
